NEXT ITERATION - Autumn 2025 - APPLICATION PERIOD OPEN >> READ MORE INFO BELOW

As part of our 7.5-credit Vertically Integrated Project course, you’ll team up with other game development students to design, implement, and test small games, in a contest-like structure where your team will strive to become both the sharpest game designer and the best bug hunter!
This VIP course is framed under the Game Tech Academy research project, and you’ll have the opportunity to join a heterogenous team of game design and development students from Malmö University and Högskolan i Skövde. Regardless of your game student background, you’ll have the chance to join a team with diverse skills that will compete to produce the best game design and the best game testing tool.
The course takes place during the complete term (20 weeks, 25% study rate), and it’s open for remote participation both from Malmö and Skövde.

How It Works
- Week 1 Introductory lectures – We’ll have initial focused sessions covering key aspects of game- and gameplay- testing. Student teams will be created during these sessions.
- Week 2-3 Research and exploration: You’ll review in teams game- and gameplay- testing strategies and tools currently used in the game industry, as well as state-of-the-art research approaches to the topic.
- Week 4-10 Game level design and implementation : Working in teams, you’ll use your hybrid knowledge and skills to design and implement levels for a small game prototype, designed so that it can be tested with an automatic testing tool. This is your chance to test your skills at designing a game that’s optimized for testing.
- Week 11-18 Testing tool design and implementation: Your team will design and implement a tool that is capable of automatically test a given set of aspects in the developed game, appropriately spotting and reporting the bugs found.
- Week 19-20 Test your might! Finally, you will apply your testing tool to another team’s game, in a competition that will determine which one is the most test-optimized game dev team.
